3:30pm and 7pm Freedom of a Christian

Every Wednesday from 01/07/2026 to 05/20/2026

Martin Luther’s 1520 book, Freedom of a Christian, sets out Luther’s understanding of humans’ relationship with God and our relationships with each other. Beginning Wednesday, January 7, Pastor Jay will lead a study examining the historical and theological background in which Luther wrote, followed by an exploration of what Luther believed it meant to face God.

We’ll take a break during Lent, but will resume meeting on April 8 as we study Luther’s understanding of our relationships with our neighbors, what it means to love our neighbors as ourselves, and “do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”

The study will meet twice on Wednesdays.  You can attend at 3:30pm or 7pm.  The 7pm study will also be available via Zoom.

We’ll use Timothy Wengert’s translation of Freedom of A Christian.  You can download a free pdf here or purchase a paperback copy on Amazon.

We’ll also use a study guide prepared by the Evangelical Lutheran Church, available here.
