Martin and Katie Luther Luncheon

10.15.17 | Events | by Shannon Cronin

Messiah's Reformation Luncheon was one of the ways Messiah celebrated the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation. It was such a blessing to break bread (or in our case, pretzels!) with so many great Messiah friends and family! Additional thanks to our friends at Thrivent Financial for bringing Martin and Katie Luther to us; what a great and fun presentation!

While this meal was not meant to be a fundraiser, through the generosity of our guests, we came in far under budget, and donated the entirety of the meal's revenue to Lutheran Disaster Response, a ministry of the ELCA. 77 people attended the luncheon. The menu consisted of Cider-Braised Bratwurst, Sauerkraut with apples, potato salad, pretzels, green salad, and Apple Strudel for dessert!
Martin and Katie Luther, with Martin and Katy Productions, told us stories of their lives, including how they met and were married, how their faith influenced their actions in and for the Reformation, and the important theological shifts from punishment to grace that were much of the focus of their work.
